local printers in terminal server sessions

April 6, 2005

Did you know that you can only connect printers on a local port (no network/shared) to use in a terminal server session? You can get around it with a network printer by sharing it and mapping it to a local port. Do you remember how to map a shared printer to an LPT port?
Create a batch file containing:
net use \host\printer LPT2: /Persistant:YES
Now manually add a local printer on LPT2: and Bob’s your Uncle.
Drop the bat file in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
