share outlook pst without exchange

April 26, 2005

I’ve OLFolders around for a while, but never had a chance to test it out. I set it up to share a calendar between two machines the other day. It took about 30 minutes to get working.
Pros:
-It works.
-Relatively quick setup
-Whole process is invisible to end-user.

Cons:
-It runs in userland instead of as a service. The ‘server’ must have someone logged in for the program to run.
-Setup is far from polished. Some buttons are still in German.
-The server requires Outlook installed to run. I wanted to have it run on a standalone server, but didn’t want to install Outlook on it.
